that's the message but won't happen. the russians don't have a working atomic arsenal. why should their entire army be in poor condition and their nuclear weapons which requiring far more maintenance not?.
Meh; the West has said repeatedly that they would back off if threatened with nuclear weapons... so of course Putin is threatening to use nukes.
Putin is an evil dictator, but that doesn't make the reaction to him from incompetent politicians in the West any better. For months, it was known that Putin would invade Ukraine, and European leaders in particular did fuck-all to stop him.
If the West clearly tells Putin he can get away with everything in the invasion by threatening nuclear fallout, then that's exactly what he's going to do. Putin isn't some brilliant strategist, obviously; it's just that the West is lead by a menagerie of buffoons. And a good deal of them are wannabe Putins in their own way (looking at the ones who criminalize protest, deny basic services to dissenters, etc).
And one believed me for saying he would do this dick move.
