If you didn't complain about the first 3, why are you complaining about the last one?
Also, the Ghost in the Shell one was kinda retarded anyway. The character looks white in the original anime anyway... and frankly, looks quite a bit like Scarlett Johansson in the movie...
i don't want to sound condescending but people who have a problem with a black mermaid need to find r some real problems. And sending hate mail to an actress who took an opportunity? c'man, thas low even for human standards
*sigh*
1- Sokka and Katara are canonically from a inuit tribe
2- Ghost in the shell takes place in japan and she is canonically japanese
3- Prince of persia takes place in persia, main character is canonically persian
Ariel is a mermaid living underwater. Mermaids arent real, her geographical location is never a significant part of the story, her hair color isn't a significant part of the story, her ethnicity isnt an important part of the story. Main 2 criteria for ariel are, is a woman, can sing well. done.
Anyone getting this emotional over the casting of this movie, instead of over the fact that its yet another shitty live action remake, are mad racist lol. This time it's clear as day.
When you become an adult you will find that you are not obliged to watch a movie and it is not necessary to criticize it on the internet to gain some attention.
So... a number of these examples are flawed. Persians are from the Middle East. That is literally where Caucasians are from. If you're mad because the actor isn't tan, I get what you're saying. Second, Ghost in the Shell maybe from Japan, but the chracter was white in the anime. 3rd the White Eskimos is definitely hypocrisy, but its makes sense that they didn't cast real eskimos because they are literally the rarest Native Americans. Not to mention, there are zero Eskimo actors.
Many here are rightfully mad about cultural appropriation but then a lot will tell disney what and what not they can do with their stories which they even have the rights for.
Why can't we move forwards? Ignore the colour of the skin if it doesn't matter to the story, hire only according the acting skills. Yes, I get the point of making characters look as much as possible when adapting some book or story or other media to a movie, but we also should get the point that it is an adaptation, we leave movie author some creative freedom. Good example is how no one really cared that Heimdall (which in comics is mostly white) was portrayed by Idris Elba. Ofc if it is a historical movie about slavery of USA, you won't hire white people to act slaves and if it is historical movie about Russia Empire serfs you won't hire black people to act serfs. Fuck this forced diversity, let it happen naturally and if you can not make it happen naturally then I guess it shouldn't happen.
