This is from an anime called "The wind rises" from the masterful studio Ghibli. This man is basically the inventor of the (in)famous Japanese Zero plane. You follow him through the journey how he tries to make the perfect plane while his wife (seen above) is very ill. During the later times of this film she decided to leave him to his dreams and didn't want to bother him anymore so she moved to a place where the symptoms of her illness were less severe if I recall correctly. It's a beautiful movie, like all the works of Hayao Miyazaki.
