Where I live we have a native tree call Jarrah, it's known for just eating woodworking tools and drill bits because of its high silica content, but it has an incredibly long service life as far as building goes due to being rot proof and incredibly durable. Back in the day, having a house made with Jarrah was a pretty good status symbol in my state.

For anyone whose curious the wood is spalted maple. The black lines you see in the wood are caused by a fungus that colonizes the wood and extracts nutrients leaving that really cool wavy line pattern.
