Having standards is not a bad thing, having unrealistic high expectations is tho. Especially if you ignore other viable options and then blame the other gender for not magically delivering what you want.
Like a fat guy wanting to date a supermodel and then starts hating on women because their "standards" are too high. (Replace genders to your own liking)
Fun fact, most people are okay with openly voicing their preferences. Despite all the media pushing fat acceptance and shaming men for not dating fat women, most men and women still voice out their preferences which are mostly universal with no backlash. I've yet to see someone being lectured in the streets for having standards. This mostly happens on the internet or perhaps it's a US thing?
Being a fat, lazy slob is unattractive as it betrays several other red flags about a person including lack of discipline, low self worth and weak will. It's not just the physical unattractiveness but the emotional bage that comes along. And as for the people who shoot out of their leagues? Unless these people strive to be better, they're no better than the dipshits who like about beauty coming in "all shapes and sizes".
“Don’t want no short dicked man”
“Don’t want no scrub”
“Can you pay my bills”
“It’s fat phobic to not date fat women”
“Body count shouldn’t matter”
Etc
Some men will always find it irritating to hear women say their preference because it will never be them, but as a society, we have absolutely no problem allowing women to say their preference.
I think it's more about what those standards are. If they are unreasonable then it seems to annoy people. And it works both ways, if someone male or female severely overestimates their own appeal and that leads them to demand far more than they can realistically expect then I'm not surprised it would piss people off.
Being narcissistic to the point where you have an inflated sense of self worth is a fucking turn off completely... a fat whore who thinks she’s the shit is a not even just a turn off... it’s disgustingly nauseating
I think people are ok with standards, I think what bugs people is that certain standards are ok while others not, e.g. height vs weight, but maybe I'm totally off, I'll let the down / up votes speak :)
